From the Teacher- Final Blog Post

 From the Teacher Week 9

Room 19 students have been very busy these past few weeks! Have a read below to see what we have been up to…

Measuring Mass

The students learnt all about measuring the weight of objects using different types of scales. Here we are looking at measuring counters to match certain amounts. After we did this, we had a chance to measure different classroom objects and record their mass.

Money, money, money!

Room 19 students learnt all about how to count small amounts of money together. We started with coins and then made our way to counting notes, too! We learnt that 100c is the same as $1 and made $1 in lots of different ways using cent coins. We have also started a challenge on how to calculate change!

Super Scientist Challenge

All of the Year Two classes have now taken part in the school’s Super Scientist Challenge. Congratulations to Liam for winning the class finalist for Room 19. Liam presented his topic on tsunamis and earthquakes in front of all the Year Two classes. Great job!

Merit Award Winners

Congratulations to Spencer, Hunter and Taquisha for receiving their Merit Certificates! Keep up your awesome work.

Homework

Thank you to those students who complete their homework each week and return it every Monday. Your hard work does not go unnoticed. Keep up your fantastic work! It’s a great idea to work on the concepts that we learn in class, as this helps up to retain more learning. Well done!

Christmas

With holidays approaching, everyone in Room 19 had a chance to help decorate our class tree. We were all very excited! Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas over the holidays.

Class Picnic

As you would know through the school note sent home, this year all classes will be holding a class picnic catered by Subway. This has been replaced from our usual class party where students bring in a plate of food from home, due to health and safety procedures following Covid19. We appreciate your understanding. I am sure the students will love their Subway orders just as much and will still enjoy our end of year party! Our class party/picnic will be held on Wednesday of Week 10. Please ensure Subway forms are completed on time.

End of Year!

What a year has it been! It has been a pleasure to teach all of the wonderful students in Room 19. Before you know it, they will be getting ready for senior school in big Year Three! We have had some ups and downs, with the interruption of Covid, however, I believe all students have done a fantastic job at keeping up with their learning and reaching their individual goals. Congratulations, everyone!

We all know our holidays are a long break, so doing some small things at home to retain your learning can really help you prepare for Year Three. Below is a list of things you can do, so you don’t forget all of your hard work and learning!

  • Write a diary/recount of activities you do during the holidays.
  • Write a letter to your parents trying to persuade them to let you do something you’ve been wanting to do!
  • Write a narrative with exciting characters and events.
  • Recite your times tables or learn a new one you’ve been wanting to master.
  • Access Studyladder to work on your Literacy and Maths skills learnt.
  • Hop on to your Typing Club account and work on your typing skills (this is a big one for Year Three!!)
  • Type up a story on Microsoft Word- change the font, choose a border etc
  • Create a PowerPoint on Microsoft PowerPoint with cool animations.
  • Use the internet or books to research information about your favourite animal or something that interests you.

Wishing everyone a fantastic holiday and a very happy New Year! Have lots of well-deserved fun and relaxation. Please take care over the holidays as we always want to see you back safe and well next year.

Happy holidays!

Welcome to Term 4!

Hi everyone!

Welcome to Term 4 and what a busy term we have ahead of us. This term Room 19 have begun their dancing classes on a Thursday. The children have learnt a new dance and are truly showing their fantastic dance skills and coordination! I’m looking forward to the students showcasing their dance abilities to parents during our Dance Parties much later in the term.

Coming up later in the term we will also begin swimming lessons. A note will of course be sent out with further information regarding permission and payment.

Being our final term of Year Two, we still have plenty of learning to take place! Homework is now on the blog for students to complete and return every Monday for whole-class marking. Home practice is an excellent way for students to retain what they have been learning in class throughout the week and is highly encouraged to complete. Incentives such as raffle tickets are used in our classroom to encourage students to complete and return their Homework on time. Just a reminder that parents are not required to print the Homework sheets, as the students can write their answers in their Homework book.

Please be sure to continue to check our blog throughout the term as there are many events taking place and information to come.

I’m looking forward to another fantastic term with our Terrific Twos!

Have a lovely day.

From the Teacher

Hi everyone!

We have had a busy Term 3 so far with plenty going on both in and out of the classroom! Have a read below of some of the things that Room 19 have been up to these past few weeks.

Science
This term our focus has been on Biological Science. We have been learning all about animals, plants and people. Room 19 have learnt about offspring, lifecycles and will be planting their very own bean seed! We have learnt about everything that living things need to grow and survive, as well as the parts of plants. Room 19 will be investigating how bean seeds grow best and whether putting them out of the sun will change the way they grow. We will keep you updated on our results!

NAIDOC Week
This year for NAIDOC Week, we participated in an incursion. Room 19 learnt about the native plants and seasons used by Aboriginal people. It was very interesting to learn how Aboriginal people would find and use different plants for food, medicine and even just for sweet drinks!

Mathematics
This week we have been revisiting division and sharing numbers into equal groups. Here are some photos of Room 19 sharing pretend ‘lollies’ with one another. We needed to make sure that each student had the equal amount as their partner to make it ‘fair’!

Merit Certificate Winners
Congratulations to Zara, Riley, Sarah, Isla and Kairav on receiving a merit certificate! Well done for working hard and striving to do your best throughout the term. I am so pleased with your efforts. Keep it up!

Reminders:
  • Homework is now accessed via the class blog under the page ‘Homework’.
  • Book Week parade is this week on Thursday. Don’t forget to come dressed as your favourite book character!
  • Library books are due back on Thursdays (it might be a good idea to keep them in your school bag, so you don’t need to remember to pack them every Wednesday night or Thursday morning!)
  • Faction Carnival is Friday the 4th August.

From the Teacher

Mathematics

Room 19 have worked very hard during these past few weeks in their Mathematics learning. We conduct Maths rotations where students are given time to use the skills taught independently and in groups. It has been great to see everyone enjoying learning making strides each day. Don’t forget that students can access Studyladder for Maths and Literacy activities during the holidays!

Mammal Report

All Year 2 classes have been busy researching and collecting information on a chosen mammal. We used the internet and books from the school library to find this information. Room 19 created posters to display their research and are currently working on creating PowerPoint presentations on the computers.

Merit Certificate Winners

Although there have been no school assemblies, students have still been rewarded for their excellent work and behaviour. Congratulations to Merit Award winners middle of the term: Jonah, Anaya and Ayana. End of term winners: Imani, Liam and Jaxon. Congratulations to you all for your outstanding work ethic and behaviour. Keep up the great work!

Science with Mr Sanderson

Room 19 were very lucky to have Science-wizard, Mr Sanderson come in for a Science lesson! Mr Sanderson spoke about push and pull movements and even showed us how people are conductors of electricity! We used catapults to flick pom-poms as far as we could, which required a pushing motion in order for it to work. Room 19 are now exploring how far they can make their pom-pom travel by angling their catapults in different ways. Thanks for the fun afternoon, Mr Sanderson!

Term Holiday Break

It has been a very busy term and I'm sure you will all enjoy your holidays! Some things you might like to do during the break (so you don't forget everything we have learned!) are:
  • Studyladder activities
  • Typing Club
  • Put your spelling words into sentences
  • Read over your sight words
  • Recite your times tables
  • Help your parents at the shops when counting money
  • Use a computer to research facts about a topic and create a PowerPoint presentation on it
  • Write a diary of what you do each day of the holidays

Most of all, stay healthy and safe, and I will see you all back next term!
