Thank you

I'd just like to say a big thank you to the wonderful students of Room 21. You are all superstars and I wish you all the best for the rest of the year. I know you will all be so amazing! Thank you to parents and students for my beautiful and thoughtful gifts. I am sure they will be put to good use!
Mrs O'Hart will now be the classroom teacher for the remainder of the year. She will create a new blog for parents and students to use.

Thank you again and all the best!
I will miss teaching such fantastic students.

From the Teacher Week 4 Update

 From the Teacher

As we are all aware, NAPLAN has commenced for the year. Our class has been working super hard to prepare for these assessments. Well done, everyone! I am sure your hard work will pay off.

Please ensure students arrive at school on time as any late arrivals will have to sit the tests at a later date.

Student Birthdays

As discussed at Parent Night in Term 1, we do celebrate student birthdays. I understand most students enjoy bringing in a small treat for their peers. If bringing in a treat, please do not bring in homemade food (such as cupcakes, cakes etc). This is due to COVID health and safety within the school. Individually packaged items (e.g. Freddo Frogs, Smarties) are acceptable. Thank you.

Homework

Students completing NAPLAN testing are not required to complete homework over these weeks. If parents would like to continue homework, students can access practice NAPLAN testing online (public demonstration site), Literacy Pro and Studyladder. Homework will recommence Monday Week 6, as will regular spelling lists.

Merit Awards

Congratulations to Kairav, Ella and Bryan on receiving merit awards at our last senior assembly. You have all been working so hard! Well done.

Literacy Pro

It has been pleasing to see students logging on to Literacy Pro at home. It is excellent to practice reading and comprehension skills wherever we can. Students are reminded to make sure they have read and understand the whole text before completing the quizzes.

Super Scientist

This semester, Super Scientist requires students to research and present a science experiment of their choice to the class. There will be plenty of information sent home on this tomorrow (note is linked below). Room 21 will start presentations after NAPLAN (Week 6). If students are having trouble thinking of a topic, they may find some ideas through the websites below:

Maternity Leave

I will be heading off on maternity leave this term. This will most likely take place towards the end of Week 6. I have absolutely loved working with all the superstar students in Room 21 and will certainly miss them all! Note: The class blog will change over to the new teacher’s blog. You will be kept updated about this when the time comes.

Reminders

  • Library is every Thursday. Students should be responsible of remembering to return their books each week.

  • Week 6 Homework and spelling lists will return back to normal. Homework will be due back Monday Week 7.

  • Super Scientist- start thinking of what topic you would like to present on to get a head start!

  • School photos will take place in Week 11 of this term. You will be given more information about this closer to the time.

Thank you

 From the Teacher

As we only have a week and a day left of school, it has been our number one priority to fit in as much learning as possible! We have had a very busy and fast-paced term, so the upcoming holidays should be a nice break for the students. With that being said, there will be ‘holiday work’ posted on the blog for those who wish to continue retaining their learning over the break.

Literacy Pro

This year the students have started to work on Literacy Pro (which we are very excited about) to promote reading, as well as reading comprehension. Our goal is to have the most words read out of all of the classes that take part in Literacy Pro! I have been tracking these through my own account, so it has been great to see students doing lots of reading at home as well as in class. Well done! Please make sure to read the entire text carefully before completing quizzes as this can bring down your own quiz pass rate and the class quiz pass rate.

Here we are using Literacy Pro in class:

Homework

Homework will commence next term. As for during the holidays, please see below for some ideas on ‘holiday work’.

  • Put spelling or Sitton words into simple and compound sentences
  • Read and spell Sitton words
  • Write sentences using nouns, verbs and adverbs
  • Keep a diary of everything you do during the holidays
  • Write a narrative about the Easter bunny or something else exciting
  • Write a persuasive text to convince your parents to let you do something you’ve been wanting to do!
  • Recite your times tables until you know them off by heart!
  • Write your own missing number sentences for you or your family to solve

Numero

This year students in Year Three can take part in ‘Numero Club’ during some lunch times with Mrs Lowther in the library. Numero Club is great for students who really enjoy the game or even if they would like to become better at it. Numero is an excellent card game to work on Mental Maths and problem solving skills. Here we are in class mentoring one another in the game:

Merit Awards

Congratulations to Anaya and Jaxon on receiving merit awards at our last senior assembly. Keep up the fabulous efforts!

Room 21 also won the Music award!

Drop Everything and Talk

In class we have been taking part of the whole-school strategy ‘Drop Everything and Talk’. This is 15 minutes one day a week where the students are given a topic to talk about in their groups. They then come to a consensus as to who spoke about the topic the best. The winner then writes up what they spoke about and it is posted to the blog.

This week the students selected Ella and Spencer. Well done! You can read their responses below.

Ella

Hi my name is Ella my class has done DEAT that means drop ever thing and talk!

I will tell you about Gymnastics.

In Gymnastics you can do tricks on bars and there is this floor that you can do tricks on and it is soft. There are ropes that you can climb and do tricks/stunts on. There are trampolines. My favourite part is using the ropes.

Spencer

Hi my name is Spencer and I will tell you about football. I play with my brothers and sometimes with my friends. I play for a team and it’s called Auskick! I like catching the ball and kicking goals through the poles at my house. My brothers don’t like it that much, but I really enjoy it. My favourite AFL team are the West Coast Eagles.

Harmony Day

We are buddies with Miss Baines' Pre-Primary class! We made Harmony Day bracelets together.

Holidays

Thank you for continuing to support your child’s education at home. Parent support is always greatly appreciated- thank you!

I hope everyone enjoys their holidays and has a happy Easter (for those celebrating). Remember to rest up for a long 11 week term when you return!

Have a lovely time.

From the Teacher Term 1 Week 3

 From the Teacher

The start of the school year has definitely been a busy one. We have been working very hard in our new room (Room 21). This term is obviously now a shorter one, so we will be working twice as hard to learn as much as possible in our first term of Year 3.

Thank you to everyone in Room 21 for dressing up for Aussie Day! Unfortunately, my 'Australia' shirt didn't quite fit over the baby bump this year! You all looked amazing!

Literacy Pro

This year the students have started to work on Literacy Pro (which we are very excited about) to promote reading, as well as reading comprehension. Our goal is to have the most words read out of all of the classes that take part in Literacy Pro!

Homework

Homework will not be posted to the blog yet. Homework sheets will be sent home with the students for now. This may change in the future. I strongly recommend students complete some of their homework each night, as they are now Year Three the workload does begin to intensify. It is important that students keep up to date and take responsibility of their own learning.

Spelling words will be posted to the blog for students to copy into their Homework books at home.

Senior Assembly

As you may already be aware, being in Year Three, we now take part in Senior Assemblies. The first assembly will be held Friday 5th March.

Student Councillors

Congratulations to Anaya and Kairav on being selected as Semester 1 Student Councillors! I am certain they will do a magnificent job.

Drop Everything and Talk

In class we have been taking part in the whole-school strategy of ‘Drop Everything and Talk’. This is for15 minutes during the week where the students are given a topic to talk about in their groups. They then come to a consensus as to who spoke about the topic the best. The winner then writes up what they spoke about and it is posted to the blog.

This week the students selected were Veera and Kairav. Well done! You can read Veera and Kairav’s responses below on the topic: Describe a story or book that you have enjoyed reading or listening to more than once and what made it special.

Veera:

Hi my name is Veera and I am going to write a review on the book ‘Sisters’.

I like this book because it makes me calm down, even though I have read it 40 times! It has a character called Raina, she is the big sister and Amanda is the middle sister. Raina Telegram is the author of this book and she is the illustrator as well.

2 reasons I think it is special:

  • *    you can read it to a sibling
  • *    it has a lot of funny scripts

Kairav:

Hi my name is Kairav. I am going to write a review on the book 'Minecraft'. I like this book because it is full information and it is funny. It tells all about Minecraft and it has cool pictures! Thank you.
